Summer Mackerel fishing with Harwell Charters
Short trips available from June - October to catch this wonderful species

The Atlantic Mackerel (Scomber Scombrus) arrives at the Western end of the English channel in the Spring and quickly moves Eastwards feeding voraciously on small fish and prawns. By June, large shoals of mackerel can be found off the Sussex coast and they remain there until early October. Wonderful to eat and healthy too, mackerel are traditionally caught with small lures known as feathers, jigged up and down with a rod and line.
Harwell Charters offer bespoke trips to experience the beautiful Sussex coastline and try their hand at catching this fantastic fish. All tackle is provided and you can keep what you catch. Suitable for adults and children, an experienced skipper will meet you at the marina where you will be given a comprehensive safety briefing before heading through the locks into the open sea. Shoals of mackerel are commonly found in the deep waters off Beachy Head but sometimes they can be found right at the harbour entrance. Trips last for approximately two hours. A great trip and great fun!
Please note that mackerel catches cannot be guaranteed however mackerel can be caught in large numbers. Harwell Charters promotes responsible fishing and encourages customers to only keep what they need.
