Sea Training Sussex provides all aspects of boat tuition and training courses, for the beginner who just wants help to enjoy their first time afloat, to the experienced for additional training.
Based at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne & Newhaven Marina, STS is an RYA powerboat & sailboat training school dedicated to providing the highest possible standard of RYA tuition at competitive prices. Popular courses include RYA Powerboat level 1 & level 2, ICC (International Certificate of Competence), CEVNI and Keel boat level 1, level 2, Level 3 sail training including own boat tuition, DSC radio, Radar, Diesel engine course and first aid course. Bespoke training courses and taster days are also popular.
Our teaching boats for power are a 6m Chinook RIB powered by a 115hp Suzuki engine and a Raider 18 fast fisher with the latest lean burn 90hp Suzuki engine. Having both craft enables us to tailor our training courses to suit a wide range of customers. Both vessels are equipped with high quality electronics and have a comprehensive inventory of safety equipment. Personal lifejackets and wet weather gear are provided.
For Sail Training we use our Hunter Sonata 23, an excellent craft for Keelboat Training comprehensively kited out for the purpose.
Company Overview
The training school Principal is Mark Sawyer and the Senior instructor is Guy Emery. Both have extensive seagoing experience and provide professional, friendly training courses directed entirely at giving you the skills you need. Mark is the Coxswain of the Eastbourne Lifeboat and Guy is a local paramedic. Guy is also the medic on the Eastbourne Lifeboat.
STS and sister company Harwell Charters Ltd also provide skippered and bareboat hire of the RIB and sportsfisher, both of which are MCA coded. The Arvor in particular, is used extensively for fishing and bespoke training courses for anglers can be provided.
Location
STS runs RYA training courses from Sovereign Harbour Marina, situated between Pevensey Bay and Eastbourne, also power boat level 2 courses are run from Newhaven Marina, Shorebased training courses are provided on site and free parking is available. There are a wealth of shops and restaurants to enjoy before and after your training course and there is 24 hour access to the sea via two locks at the marina entrance.
